Backseat Conceptions Production Report - July 2009

It's been a busy time these last few months in the Backseat! We're currently in production on a new feature directed by our friend Conrad Stojak in Queens called '100 Proof' as well as finishing post on the AKAs music video for 'Get It Together. More on these projects soon!

Recently released to the public is the music video for the vampire goth-rock band 'the 69 Eyes' new song 'Dead Girls are Easy'. The video was directed by Bam Margera with Producer/Director Of Photography Joe Frantz, Backseat co-produced and handled all the post-production. You can currently catch the video as an exclusive on Playboy.com, and the video is airing on MTV Finland now!

Also, the behind the scenes of the last music video we did with Bam Margera, CKY's A#1 Roller Rager premiered on MTV2 a few weeks back and now you can check it out on YouTube here!

You can also see the music video here!

In other news, our good friend Evan Meszaros directed another spot for Trojan Condoms which we produced, you can check that out here!
Trojan Condoms - "Massuese"

And a shout out to Ronni Thomas (composer for Meszaros' movie Windcroft) who also directed another Trojan spot - "Monster", we did not work on it but it's still really cool! Check it out!

Village Green Presents: The Valley Arena, El Fuego, Mean Streets
Project

Project

Thursday, July 30th - Village Green Presents: The Valley Arena, El Fuego, & Mean Streets

The Valley Arena - "Bearing a striking resemblance to ’90s inamoratos Fugazi (had Fugazi formed 10 years later than they did), the Valley Arena’s Sesso.Vita (Italian for “Sex.Life”) brings a more evolved, heightened awareness of the link between intellectualism and raw sexual desire." - LINK

El Fuego - "...Combining, splicing, fusing, and smashing through many styles ranging from 60's pop/garage, old school powerpop and 77 punk, blues, 70's classic rock, old school heavy metal and hard rock and roll, all done with new open-minded approaches that only this generation can bring. Driving progressions with dynamic 3 part vocal harmonies run rampant and wild causing speakers to ooze with raw energy, fiery passion, sheer determination, and a warm blanket of love and kindness. All in addition to their explosively energetic live performances that are filled with craziness and fun that keep on getting more and more over the top. This fire is proving to be a glimmer of hope in a world filled with darkness and shit." - LINK

Mean Streets - "Mean Streets are a punk band from Philadelphia with ex-members of Cranked Up! and The War's End. The band formed in Spring 2006 and have been going strong ever since. Not being satisfied with banging out mindless riffs, Mean Streets crafts songs with the purpose of creating a high-energy punk sound, with pop sensibility." - LINK

Three 4 Tens and Green Rock Tavern
Project

Project

August 1st - Three 4 Tens, Adam and Dave's Bloodline, and The Anchorboys

$20 - 21+ - 8pm
ALL YOU CAN DRINK KENZINGERS WHILE SUPPLIES LAST!

Three 4 Tens - "This numerically minded Philadelphia group has a serious '60s fetish and they're not the least bit ashamed. They admit to being deeply influenced by early Barrett-era Pink Floyd and fellow Philadelphian Todd Rundgren's pre-prog Nazzdays, which they clearly are, but you might also detect hints of 5th Dimension-era Byrds and shades of their British Invasion counterparts (The Animals, The Who). However they derived their rock formula, The Three 4 Tens clearly got it right, because their classic blend of spacey psych and bouncy garage rock rarely fails to satisfy and entertain."

Adam and Dave's Bloodline - "Adam & Dave’s Bloodline, a band who has cruised the local Philly scene in recent years while occasionally opening for the likes of Jay Reatard and the Meat Puppets, are shape-shifters. The band has never shied away from genre-bashing techniques in the past - one of their older songs called “The Traveler”, Petersen once said, was essentially fused together from the Crystals’ “Then He Kissed Me” and Bob Dylan and the Band’s “You Ain’t Goin’ Nowhere.” These guys deliver rock and pop with guitar hooks aplenty. At times sounding radio-ready while unabashedly indie-rock, A&D's Bloodline are a solid troupe of local noisemakers."

The Anchorboys - Pop rock with a heavy groove

Project

Sunday, August 9th - Village Green Presents: Sneaky Sea Lions, On Display, & Suburban Sensei

Sneaky Sea Lions - With their infectious, high-energy live performance, and a curious combination of genres for a whole new sound, The Sneaky Sea Lions have arrived. Hailing from all over New Jersey and Pennsylvania, the band comes together from the remnants of NJ staple SGR and other locals such as No Damn Problem, Whiskey Flask Revenge and Not Quite Chris, fusing together jazz, swing, and rock, to create their own brand of ska. Almost a year old at this time, The Sneaky Sea Lions have already traveled throughout New Jersey, New York, and Pennsylvania, creating a comfortable fan base, and playing with the likes of The Slackers, Westbound Train, Whole Wheat Bread, Brain Failure, Big D and the Kids Table, and many more. Already having released a seven song, self-titled disc in January, the band plans to go into the studio again by mid-summer, with hopes to release a full-length disc by the fall. Keep your eyes open, because the Sea Lions will be sneaking into your town sometime soon! - LINK

On Display - "...dashing good looks, angelic voices, indestructible strings, hip horns, and bodacious beats." - LINK

Suburban Sensei - Local sock rockin'ska band

Friday, August 14th - The Rasberry Brothers: Movie Parody Night!

The Rasberry Brothers are a rotating troupe of commedianst whos' hilarious commentary on crappy movies has been entertaining audiences for years. Their brutal treatment of Hollywood archetypes and poor production value (a la MST3000) makes the films sound better with the volume turned sown and the commentary up.

Jerm Pollet splits his time between Austin, Texas and NYC, operating as the lead Raspberry Brother. His live comedy act has entertained hundreds of thousands over the past seven years, and his television show has aired weekly on Austin’s NBC network on Saturdays, immediately following Saturday Night Live. The Raspberry Brothers have sold out shows at NYC’s premiere art-house theater, Chelsea Cinemas. The musical theater show "Johnny Applefucker", which Jerm conceived, musically directed, and composed songs for, recently sold-out a four-night run in Soho’s legendary Ohio Theater.

Saturday, Sept. 5th through 12th - Shakesploitation II: Iambic Boogaloo

See the throat-slashing, rhyme-busting Shakesploitation II: Iambic Boogaloo, sequel to the sold-out 2005 Fringe hit. See R. Kelly and Juliet in “Trapped in the Closet”, the pornorific “Taming of the Screw”, a screaming Viola in the muderdertastic “Friday the 13th Night”, and “Richard III: Cobra Commander.” The Badass bard is back!

The original performances of Shakesploitation at the 2005 Fringe Festival sold out and received rave reviews “One example of the inventive, unique offerings of the Philly Fringe is Iron Age Theatre and Centre Theater’s “Shakesploitation” trio. This fast-paced comedy features three classic Shakespeare plays” statedLori Zaspel of Out and About Magazine. The City Paper commented “Shakesploitation! successfully purees the Bard in a blender with Shaft (“Grand Theft Othello”), the walking dead (“Romeo and Juliet II: Apocalypse”), and kung-fu (“Ninja Hamlet Burning Fist of Denmark”). The renditions will leave you in hysterics.”
